Notas

On white vinyl. Comes in a paper bag with liner notes.

Note from side 2 of the vinyl:
They have been talking about a journey into the interior. They know the dangers and yet they have already decided upon it. No one can talk them out of it. It is clear that their minds are made up. Their knapsacks are packed. Their guides have been chosen. They remain cool to suggestions. They smile enigmatic smiles. They no longer answer questions. -- Carol EMSHWILLER. Álbum

The Coroner's Gambit is the fifth studio album by the Mountain Goats, released on October 17, 2000 by Absolutely Kosher Records. Several songs from this album, including The Coroner's Gambit, Bluejays and Cardinals, and Shadow Song, were written about Rozz Williams, who ended his life two years before the release of the album, and was a personal friend of John Darnielle. In some live versions, he will reference Williams by first name. Album 2000 16 Songs. Darnielle has been exceedingly prolific thoughout the 1990s, but beginning in 2000 with The Coroners Gambit his focus seems tighter than ever. Im the hard to find stations on the AM band, he sings in a hyped-up plea on Jaipur, the albums opener. Its an accurate description of the sound that includes the mechanical whir of his boombox and the flat, unprocessed sound of whatever room is being used for the recording. The Coroner's Gambit is The Mountain Goats' fifth studio album. It was released in 2000, under the label Absolutely Kosher. Jaipur - 3:13. Elijah - 3:07. Trick Mirror - 2:40. Island Garden Song - 2:27. The Coroner's Gambit - 2:55. Baboon - 2:16. Scotch Grove - 1:37. Horseradish Road - 2:28. Family Happiness - 2:57. Onions - 2:15. Bluejays and Cardinals - 3:03. Shadow Song - 2:45. There Will Be No Divorce - 2:51. A more up-tempo version of the title track. This music is not mine, it's John Darnielle's - the album was on Absolutely Kosher. This recording is Coroners Gambit, or Slavonic Dances, if you prefer. Sixteen new songs from your earnest friends, The Mountain Goats. To be sung at the bases of trees in Vancouver, Bombay, New Albany, Hull, Delft, Dar-es-Salaam, et cetera. The photograph on the album cover is of an incense factory in Calcutta, dated circa 1931. The Coroners Gambit Q&A. Like every Mountain Goats album before 2002's Tallahassee, The Coroner's Gambit is a musically simple, yet emotionally complex, collection of lo-fi gold, eschewing professional conventions in favor of intimate, homebrewed numbers awash in a tinny haze of tape hiss, charmingly under produced acoustic guitar, and buzzing vocals. Bittersweet and unnerving, the stories presented on The Coroner's Gambit, while mostly fictitious, are so hauntingly bare that it is hard to believe that Darnielle hasn't lived dozens of lives, each full of despair and distrust, as well as joy and rapture, displaying his uncanny ability to wrap his bleak musings on the best and the worst of human interactions in. The Coroner's Gambit is an album by The Mountain Goats. It is mostly John Darnielle and his acoustic guitar, but it has sparse auxiliary instrumentation as well. Most of the songs were recorded on John's Panasonic RX-FT500 boom box, but due to either mechanical failure or desire for clearer sound quality, he used a 4-track recording machine for some tracks. The Mountain Goats is the musical project of singer-songwriter, novelist, pianist and guitarist John Darnielle. He has the distinction of being named by the The New Yorker magazine as 'Americas best non-hip-hop lyricist' in its June 2006 issue, Paste magazine dubbed Darnielle one of the '100 Best Living Songwriters'.
